A popcorn kernel or a fall on the stairs: however the tooth broke, our 4500 South office in Salt Lake City repairs it the same day. Ring (385) 480-0270 and a same-day time goes on the books for you. How much tooth is left decides whether our dentists rebuild it with bonding, a filling or a crown. Phone first; walk-ins aren't accepted.
The $99 emergency exam fee is for patients paying without insurance. It covers a limited, problem-focused emergency exam and the X-ray needed to diagnose the tooth. Treatment is priced separately and quoted to you in writing before any work starts.
Bonding, fillings and crowns are all done by our own dentists here.

Signs you need broken tooth repair today
Plenty of chips can wait. These can't. An edge sharp enough to cut your tongue or cheek. A break that exposes a yellow layer under the white enamel, which means the tooth will be sensitive to air and cold. Any break that hurts when you bite. A fragment that wiggles when your tongue presses on it.

Pain is the key. A small chip that doesn't hurt can usually wait a few days. A break with pain means the nerve is close to the surface, and that tooth is easier to save today than next week.
If the break came from a blow to the face and you also have bleeding that won't stop or a possible broken jaw, go to the emergency room first. St. Mark's Hospital is on 1200 East near 3900 South, about 2 miles northeast of us. Hospitals treat facial injuries; they generally don't treat the tooth itself. Call us for that part once you're home.
What happens at your same-day visit
How far the break goes is the first question, and the X-ray answers it. A chip confined to the enamel is a different problem from a crack that reaches the root.
Then you hear the repair that fits. Bonding for a small chip, where tooth-colored resin is shaped onto the edge and hardened with a light. A filling when a corner or a cusp has broken off a back tooth. A crown when a large part of the tooth is gone and a filling wouldn't survive chewing. A crack that has reached the nerve usually calls for an emergency root canal ahead of the crown. A tooth split through the root is past repair, and an emergency tooth extraction is the straight answer.
Whatever the plan, you get it in writing with the price before work begins. Bonding and fillings are usually finished the same visit. A crown takes more than one appointment, so the dentist protects the tooth that day and you leave without the sharp edge.
Cost of broken tooth repair in Salt Lake City
Uninsured patients are billed $99 for the X-ray and exam, with the repair as a separate line, quoted in writing. Bonding, a filling and a crown are three different procedures, and you'll know which one you're getting before you agree.
With one of our four in-network plans, the claim for your exam and X-ray goes to the plan. Cash, credit cards, CareCredit financing and credit union financing for larger treatments all work here. Start to finish, the cost and insurance page spells out the full process.

Frequently asked questions
Can a chipped tooth be fixed the same day?
Most are. Phone (385) 480-0270 while the office is open and a same-day time is reserved for you. Bonding and fillings are completed in that visit. A crown needs more than one appointment, but the tooth is protected and the sharp edge is gone before you leave the first day.
Should I keep the broken piece?
Yes, if you can find it. Drop it in a little milk (or your own spit) in a sealed container and bring it with you. Sometimes a clean fragment can be bonded back on. If it's lost, the dentist rebuilds the missing part with resin instead, and the result looks the same.
What if the tooth doesn't hurt?
Call anyway, but it can usually wait until the next office day rather than the next hour. Press a little dental wax over a sharp edge to protect your tongue, and chew on the other side. A tooth that looks fine but hurts to bite on is the one to see sooner.
My crown chipped. Is that the same thing?
Close. A chipped or broken crown, or one that fell off entirely, is covered on our lost filling or crown page. The visit works the same way: X-ray, written price, repair or replacement.
